Integrative Vocal Wellness

Integrative Vocal Wellness (IVW) is a holistic approach to vocal health that recognizes the voice as an integral part of a complex system encompassing the body, mind, and spirit. This concept goes beyond traditional vocal training, which often focuses solely on the technical aspects of singing or speaking. Instead, it emphasizes nurturing the whole self to achieve optimal vocal performance. At its core, IVW acknowledges and honors the interconnectedness of our physical, emotional, and spiritual states, reflected in our voices—our unique sonic signatures in the world.

Bodymind resources such as yoga and mindfulness are the centerpiece of Integrative Vocal Wellness mentorship. Yoga helps us become acutely aware of both overt and subtle tensions that can disrupt our vocal wellness. Its application for building wellness in performers lies in its ability to help us notice and calm tensions that impede our voices as they arise in real time, teaching us to release them at will. Yoga also operates on deeper levels of consciousness, enhancing mental clarity by regulating our nervous systems and enabling us to approach our voices with calm, creative, sincere, and expressive intentions.

YogaVoice® is a comprehensive tool for developing Integrative Vocal Wellness. Mentorship is a one-on-one collaborative process in which we work together to facilitate personal growth and vocal/expressive freedom. IVW is particularly beneficial for managing and gaining control over performance anxiety, muscle tension, physical misalignments, and energetic imbalances. Because IVW is a collaboration, it enriches both the facilitator and the learner.
